FOOTBALL: Peter Ward book review

HE shot, he scored . . . you know the rest . . . and now the Albion legend Peter Ward's biography is out to buy.

Peter Ward, voted the all-time greatest Brighton & Hove Albion player by Sky Sports viewers in 2009, tells stories from his career in the book "He Shot, He Scored", which was written by life-long Albion fan Matthew Horner.

Whether you've seen Ward play or not, all Albion fans know how much of a club legend he is. And, now living in America, Ward still frequently comes to Albion games - always to a hero's reception.

In the book, Horner has spoken to several of Ward's team-mates - Alan Mullery, Rodney Marsh, Mark Lawrenson, Viv Anderson, Brian Horton, Jimmy Case, plus several more - and they have all told tales about Ward.

The book details Ward's non-league goalscoring exploits, his debut for Brighton when he scored after just 50 seconds - although he didn't realise he had scored until he watched Match of the Day, his record-breaking 36 goals in a season, scoring a hat-trick on his England Under-21 debut at the Goldstone Ground, his on-off move to Nottingham Forest, why he never got the chance to play in Albion's 1983 FA Cup final, playing in America, and several personal stories.

Whether you saw Ward play or not, the book will be a superb gift for any football fan and a must for any Albion supporter.
