Daniel Alfei is relishing the chance to finally make his Pompey debut after the aborted first attempt.

The loan arrival from Swansea had been told he was in Richie Barker’s line-up against Accrington Stanley last weekend.

But the match was called off the day before and the right-back was forced to wait for what will also be his first start in the Football League.

The Blues next head to Oxford tomorrow against the promotion chasers, with Alfei among several new faces in the squad.

And at last the 21-year-old will get his opportunity to impress during his initial one-month stint.

He said: ‘For Accrington, we prepared as if the game would be on so knew what the team was going to be – and that included me at right-back.

‘Then Anthony Williams called me on the Friday afternoon.

‘I was in the hotel at the time and was gutted, absolutely gutted.

‘It would have been nice for me to play at home in front of the home fans.

‘But a game is a game, you still have to go and do what you have to do.

‘It means there are less games for me during the month but it is out of your hands you just have to go onto the next one.

‘It will be my first start in the Football League and I am looking forward to that.

‘Hopefully we can go up there and get a win.

‘It’s a landmark for me and my career, so it will be great to finally go out and play.’

Alfei has previously had two loan spells at Wrexham in non-league football.

He has made four first-team appearances for Swansea, with only an 88th-minute substitute appearance in the league.

Now he will make his full bow at the Kassam Stadium along with, potentially, Nicky Shorey, Jake Jervis and Ryan Taylor, who have all arrived in the past week.
