Another ex-Seagull called Hinshelwood joins Selsey FC

SELSEY FC's links with the Hinshelwood family have taken a new turn.

Martin Hinshelwood, who has just stepped down after 14 years as head of youth football at Brighton, has agreed to help the Blues in an advisory and consultancy role.

He will help everyone at the club from the senior side’s management team to coaches of their many youth sides.

Hinshelwood played for Selsey in the 1980s and his appointment is the latest in a long line of family connections to the High Street Ground outfit.

His son Danny was manager for nearly a decade, while his nephew Adam had a season as first-team boss which ended with a move to Burgess Hill in May.

Marc Hinshelwood, another of Martin’s nephews, is still a Selsey player while Martin’s son Scott was with the Blues before moving to local rivals Pagham. Selsey chairman David Lee said everyone was delighted Hinshelwood would be working with him.

“In terms of what roles he will take on, it’s quite open - but it’s essentially advisory and consultancy work. To have a man of his football experience on board is fantastic for a club like ours and we’re all looking forward to working with him.”

Selsey’s pre-season plans have been hit by the fact their pitch is not yet ready for use, chiefly because of the extrmely wet summer.

They had to postpone a planned home friendly with Bognor on monday and do not plan to play any warm-up games at home.

The Blues are due to travel to AFC Portchester this Saturday (July 28).

They hope to arrange a game for Tuesday, July 31, before starting their league campaign at Worthing United on August 4.

New players are welcome at training. Anyone interested can attend a session by reporting to the High Street Ground at 7pm on a Tuesday or Thursday or by calling David Lee on 07867 508223.
