Jack Whatmough’s workload will be managed by Andy Awford after the teenager penned a new Pompey deal.

The Gosport youngster yesterday signed a Blues extension, keeping him at the club until 2017.

The 17-year-old only inked a three-year contract in August. But such has been his impressive first-team emergence, Pompey have moved to tie him to new terms.

It’s a hectic time for Whatmough, who will keep his Pompey spot against Dagenham & Redbridge tomorrow.

He then links up with England under-18s ahead of an international with Germany on Wednesday.

Then the Blues face Bristol Rovers the following Saturday (April 19) and Northampton (Monday, April 21).

But the caretaker boss will handle Whatmough with care.

Awford said: ‘Jack will be available to us tomorrow, no issue, then he will link-up with England.

‘It’s a proper international set-up. He will meet up tomorrow night, there’s a recovery day Sunday, training Monday and Tuesday and a game on Wednesday.

‘Basically, his schedule would be Saturday, Wednesday, Saturday, Monday, which for a 17-year-old lad is heavy. But that’s something we are looking a with England.

‘We will manage that with them and with Jack to make sure he is looked after.

‘Although, Ben Chorley comes back for the Bristol game, which will be welcome.’
