Barnham's winning run is ended by Saltdean

Barnham's winning run came to an end when they went down 4-2 at Saltdean in the fifth round of the Sussex Intermediate Cup.

Captain Richie Boxall had to be taken off after five minutes and Saltdean took an early advantage after a dubiously-awarded spot-kick as Richard Watton sent Byron Kearnes the wrong way.

Minutes later the Trojans were two down after Lee Slade headed in a corner. A wonder strike from in form midfielder Aaron Hancock gave the travelling support hope and within moments Mark Pedrick crashed the ball home to make it 2-2 at half-time.

Both teams went hammer and tongs in search of the winner.

A quick break in the 68th minute gave Saltdean their third.

After good possession a chance fell to Barnham midfielder Matt Noble, who blasted just past the post. Kearns brilliantly saved a second penalty awarded to Saltdean.

With Barnham throwing everybody forward, Saltdean went on the counter with Ebou Jallow on hand to stroke home from eight yards.

But this was a spirited effort from Barnham, who this week host Lancing the Vernon Wentworth Cup.
