Bexhill close in on new boss

The Sussex County League Division Two outfit is on the hunt for a successor to Kenny McCreadie, who was de-selected after a committee vote nearly two weeks ago.

Bexhill chairman Bill Harrison confirmed that around eight people had applied for the role and that one interview has already taken place with three more scheduled for tomorrow (Thursday) evening.

Harrison said: “There’s been a lot of interest shown and there’s been some good candidates. Some have probably got too much going for them - they’re too experienced - one or two obviously not as much.

“A couple of local lads have put in for it and one or two from further away. It’s a matter of weighing up who’s going to be best for the club at the present time. It’s looking good and I will know probably by Friday who we offer the position to.”

Previous boss McCreadie came to The Polegrove last summer having guided Hailsham Town to promotion from Sussex County Football League Division Two during the 2011/12 season and a mid-table finish in Division One the following year.

The 50-year-old Scot brought much of the Hailsham squad with him and hoped to achieve something similar with Bexhill, but could only manage a disappointing eighth place finish in the league.

McCreadie did, however, guide Bexhill to their first senior county final in 40 years. The club came through three rounds to reach the Division Two Challenge Cup decider, where they lost 4-1 to Loxwood at the start of May. McCreadie has since been appointed manager of Langney Wanderers.
