Bognor are back - and looking sharp for FA Trophy test

Robbie Blake says he was pleasantly surprised at the sharpness shown by Rocks aces is their first full training session after a month away from football because of lockdown.

The Bognor coach ran the rule over the squad as they were put through their paces at Nyewood Lane last night ahead of a game at Thame United in an FA Trophy first round tie next Tuesday (December 8).

The match will go ahead although it still remains to be seen if the league campaign will resume with a decision expected later on today (Thursday). With that in mind manager Jack Pearce has arranged for further training sessions on Friday and Sunday.

Prior to the pause in proceedings, the Rocks notched up four victories. They won successive home league games, against East Thurrock with a convincing 4-0 triumph, followed by a 2-0 win over Margate. There was a 2-0 FA Trophy third qualifying round victory over Tooting & Mitcham United and in between came a 2-1 victory over Burgess Hill Town in the Sussex Senior Cup.

And Blake believes the players have shown plenty of desire to hit the ground running when they travel to Oxfordshire next week.

He said: "The lads couldn't wait to get together after lockdown and they showed bags of enthusiasm in the session. It was great to get out on the Nyewood Lane pitch under lights once again. The players were ever so sharp and I think that it bodes well for when we resume.”
