Bognor back to winning ways despite Harrow’s heroics

BOGNOR earned a first win in three games with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Harrow Borough at Nyewood Lane.

Dan Thompson, Craig Robson and James Crane were all on target for Jamie Howell’s play-off chasers - but Bognor only won by overcoming a spirited Harrow fightback in the second half.

The three points put the Rocks fourth but level on points with second-placed Dulwich Hamlet, so it’s all to play for in the race for play-off places.

Harrow started well, with Harold Odametey, Marc Charles-Smith and Steve Butterworth all going close for the visitors.

Things were looking shaky in the Rocks’ defence when Dan Sackman failed to clear but Odametey was unable to take advantage.

Against the run of play, Gosport loanee Sammy Igoe thought he had scored a debut goal.

After great work from Terry Dodd, Igoe pounced on the loose ball and fired home – but was offside.

The Rocks did take the lead on the half-hour, though, when Igoe’s flighted cross found THOMPSON, who controlled it on his chest and fired low into the net.

Both Scott Chamberlain and Dodd then had chances to increase Bognor’s lead but great goalkeeping from Harrow’s James Shea kept the half-time score at 1-0.

The Rocks extended their lead early in the second period, when Igoe’s cross was met by ROBSON.

Harrow reduced the lead almost immediately though, when Adam LOUTH smashed into the net with Rocks goalkeeper Grant Smith out of position much to the bemusement of the crowd.

The visitors were now piling on the pressure and got the equaliser soon after.

Another free-kick saw the ball fall to Danny LEECH who slammed the ball low into the net after it had bounced around the area.

Bognor restored the lead with ten minutes left to play as CRANE smashed the ball in after a goalmouth scramble, following a free-kick which had clearly been worked on at the training ground.
