Bognor fall to away reverse

AFTER THE disappointment of Saturday’s performance, this was a better showing from the Rocks, with plenty of effort – but sadly little cutting edge to produce the goal that was so desperately needed.

The game began with both sides prepared to attack and the first meaningful action saw Craig Robson set up Jake Thomson and then James Crane to thread the ball across the but Stuart Green blazed over.

Bognor were having the majority of the play and midway through the first half Alfie Rutherford almost opened his account for the Rocks when his strong header from a Harvey Whyte cross.

Within minutes, home defender Elliott Taylor was put under pressure in his own box by Sami El-Abd and Jason Prior, but he managed to clear the ball at the last moment.

The home side’s left back, Adam Cash, was perhaps their most dangerous player and his pace and determination caused some nervy moments as the home side began to impose themselves.

Former Rock Louis John also looked assured in the centre of defence.

The Police continued to look dangerous and on two occasions in succession minutes before the half time, they quickly broke from their own half and almost scored.

Whyte saved the day on the first occasion, blocking Cash’s shot on the line, and then the same player did well to foil Tom Collins.

After the break the home side put Bognor under some pressure with first Pattison and then Charlie Collins coming close.

Ollie Pearce, on for Parsons, was causing problems with his tricky play on the right wing and he produced a thunderbolt of a shot which was well saved again by King.

Almost immediately after, Rocks were behind.

Right back Ryan Case swung in what looked to be a speculative centre from the right and a combination of a miss hit ball and the swirling wind took the ball away from Smith, to somehow nestle in the net.

Bognor pushed for a leveller in the remainder of the match but could not find the net as it ended 1-0 to the home side.
