Bosham back on cup-final trail... Midhurst sink Selsey
Midhurst, Bosham and Sidlesham have all had recent success as the Southern Combination league and cup campaigns come to a close.
Here are the latest match reports, which include nes of how Sids and Bosham got on in their respective cup semi-finals.
Midhurst 4 Selsey 1
Lewis Hamilton netted two as Midhurst cruised to a home success over Selsey.
Ant Kirby and sub George Morris also scored.
Midhurst boss John Suter described the performance as the best in his time in charge and said: “It was by far the best display in my time here.
“The scoreline didn’t flatter us at all and we fully deserved all three points.”
Hamilton hit a fine free-kick to put Midhurst ahead two minutes before the break.
It was two on the hour as Hamilton teed up Kirby.
Selsey were handed a lifeline as Ryan Morey scored six minutes later before substitute Morris restored Midhurst’s two-goal cushion.
The home side were awarded a spot-kick with five minutes left after Hamilton was hauled down. He stepped up and slammed it home.
MIDHURST: Jeal; Shuga’a, Broughton, Chaplin, O’Leary; Casselton, Martin, Dormer, Fenlon; Hamilton, Kirby. Subs: Hunt (Casselton), Farquhas (Martin), Morris (Fenlon).
Bosham 2 Montpelier Villa 0
Southern Combination Division 2 Cup SF
Bosham are looking forward to their second cup final in two seasons.
Both sides were nervy at the outset at a cold Shooting Field, home of Stenying Town, and on 12 minutes the Reds edged in front through Nick Edgington.
Graeme Dowden surged down the right and with excellent vision he put a sublime ball into the heart of the Villa box and Edgington stretched a leg to poke the ball under onrushing keeper James Mckemey.
Villa came straight back at the Reds in search of a leveller but the defence restricted the blue and whites to efforts from long distance that flew wide and failed to test Kieran Magee.
George Hatton and Todd Brennan looked sharp up front but struggled to find the quality in the final third, leaving Bosham to applaud the faultless work by the likes of Callum Fewell, Pat Bulbeck and Neil Redman.
After the interval Villa tried to catch Bosham with an early sucker-punch but efforts from Shaun Jepson and sub Simon Whitney were dealt with by Magee.
Just before the hour, Bosham got the cushion of a second goal when Alex Barnes broke free of a woeful offside trap and slotted past Mckemey. Captain James Wilson’s superb through-ball set the diminutive striker on his path to goal.
Bosham made some late substitutions, Louis Bell, Dave Bryant and Ryan Hillier getting their chance to shine.
Villa tired in the closing minutes and Bosham could have added to their tally.
Bosham, who won the Sussex League Division 3 Cup last April, will face AFC Vardinians or Ferring at Storrington on Tuesday, May 10.
They are back on league duty tonight at Cowfold.
BOSHAM: Magee, Bulbeck, Redman, Fewell, Giambelardini, Wilson, Docherty, Edgington, Barnes, Dowden, Storey. Subs: Bell, Bryant, Hillier, Lafferty, Sumnall.
Last Saturday they enjoyed a thoroughly-entertaining 2-0 home win over Cowfold with goals from Alex Barnes and Marco Giambelardini.

Sidlesham’s superb run of league form has continued – but they couldn’t extend it to their cup semi-final.
Dan Bassil’s hat-trick earned them a 3-2 win at Lingfield last Thursday, then they hammered Bexhill 7-1 at home on Saturday.
Tom Bayley and Tom Jefkins each hit hat-tricks and Jamie Smith was on target.
But Sids missed out on the chance of a cup final when they lost 4-3 at Langney in the semi-finals of the Division 1 Cup. They scored through Joe Jefkins, Bassil and an own goal.
