The powerful central defender has been impressed with the quality on offer at the Blues since moving to Fratton Park from Hull in May.

But equally impressive for the 21-year-old has been the character shown by his team-mates in pre-season so far.

Bradley has come across plenty of egos in a career largely spent at the KC Stadium.

He knows how negative an influence that can be, so has been lifted to find no self-centred characters in place at Pompey.

Bradley said: ‘We are all getting on well so far.

‘I haven’t seen anybody here so far who is big time.

‘I’ve been with players who are big time off the pitch.

‘When that happens it does reflect on the pitch, as well.

‘Hopefully we can continue as we have because, if things gel well off the pitch, it will go well on it.

‘There’s definitely good quality and experience here.

‘Players like David Connolly are true professionals. He works hard for himself and the team – that’s what we need.’

Pompey will ramp up their pre-season preparations another gear next week when they go to their Colchester training base.

That will help a new-look squad familiarise themselves further.

Bradley said: ‘I’m looking forward to it and getting to know each other.

‘There’s a lot of work to be done and we aren’t going to be able to get away from each other.

‘We are going to have to gel, and it’s something we need.

‘There’s a few characters I don’t think I want to room with – but I’ll keep that to myself!

‘Seriously, all the lads are sweet and I don’t mind who I get involved with. I can get on with anybody here.’
