The win was Albion’s third in a row in all competitions this season, after a 1-0 opening-day victory against Nottingham Forest was followed up by a 1-0 victory at Southend in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday.

Hemed struck the winner from the spot three minutes into stoppage time after Kazenga LuaLua - Brighton’s matchwinner in the previous two games - was fouled by Shaun Hutchinson.

Hemed had struck the bar early on, before Brighton took the lead on 30 minutes when Sam Baldock swept home Bruno’s cross.

Fulham levelled two minutes before half-time when Tom Cairney curled the ball home from the edge of the penalty area and the hosts almost went in front before the break when Matt Smith headed against a post.

Baldock had a shot deflected on to a post at the start of the second half, before Albion keeper David Stockdale made a fine stop to keep out Smith’s close-range effort.

Albion then got the winner deep into injury-time to sit top of the Championship after two matches.
