Brilliant Rye stun fancied Chalfont

Rye United pulled off a magnificent 2-1 victory away to a strong Chalfont St Peter side on Tuesday night.

Chalfont were 9/1 third favourites for the FA Vase with Skybet before the second round replay, but Rye made light of their 5/1 match odds with a deserved win.

Scott Ramsay volleyed them in front from Luke Woodley’s cross and Danny Leach doubled the advantage shortly before half time by converting the rebound after a Liam Upton shot was saved.

Leach had a goal disallowed in the second half, and although Chalfont pulled one back through jet-heeled former Chesterfield winger Terrell Lewis, Rye held on fairly comfortably.

Their reward is a trip to fellow Sussex County League Division One high-flyers Three Bridges in the last 64 - matching their best ever run in the national competition - on Saturday December 4.
