Change of system brings change of fortune for Lavant

Lavant 4 Ashington 1

division three south

Lavant secured their first win in seven games with the adoption of a new system of play which – although it’s early days – seemed to operate better for them.

A spell of great passing played Stuart Loversidge in on the left only for him to be upended in the box.

Darren Cox converted the spot kick at the second attempt to put the home side 1-0 in front on eight minutes.

Six minutes later an equally good move, this time on the right, allowed Ryan Seacombe to double the lead in converting Dave Knight’s cross.

Loversidge was chopped down again and Cox made it 3-0 from the penalty spot eight minutes from half-time.

The visitors upped the tempo at the restart and put Lavant under intense pressure. This was rewarded just before the hour when Chris Johnson pulled one back for Rovers after a defensive error.

But three subs and a reshape of the team gave Lavant dominance again in midfield, paving the way for man of the match James Brooks to seal the home side’s three points two minutes from the final whistle, Knight again the supplier.
