Chi boss Girdler lays down the law

The Chichester boss saw City slump to a heavy 6-1 drubbing at home to Redhill in the Sussex League Division One on Saturday afternoon at Oaklands Park.

Despite Girdler not having any resources to manoeuvre within the transfer market, the manager is willing to trim away those who he believes are not showing enough passion for City’s cause.

He said: “We’re in a precarious position, we’re bottom of the league, and the club is going through a transitional period. We haven’t got the right players at the club, and it’s evident.

“We’ve got a squad of players and it’s evident that it’s not good enough, and we need to try to get some players into the club.

“We’ve got to work with what we’ve got. And I’ve told them that they’re not preparing themselves right before games or looking after themselves.

“They’re going out on Friday nights. And if they want to do that, then go and play Sundays. Don’t bother turning up here, because they’re wasting my time, their team-mates’ time, and their own time.”

With just a solitary victory in their past ten league encounters, City are now battling against the tide to avoid relegation.

On Saturday, City were 2-0 down at the interval, with Gavin Gordon and John Difford on target for the visitors.

One-way traffic continued in the second half, when Gordon netted from the penalty spot on 60 minutes. And Redhill then passed the ball around the Chi back-line with ease, before Gordon beat goal-keeper, Matt Short, to toast his hat-trick.

Chi midfielder Joe Briggs’ hit a wonder-strike from 30 yards, which offered some solace in an otherwise bleak occasion.

Normal service was resumed minutes later when Scott Harris firstly restored Redhill’s four-goal advantage, which was later added to by Kane Woollery to complete Chi’s misery.

Chi’s clash with Hassocks on Tuesday was postponed because of floodlight issues.
