Chichester are champs ... Bracklesham land another trophy

UNDER-12

Chichester City Youth have won B division B by one point – the best season the team have had.

City played 14 games and won 11, drew three and didn’t lose any. They scored 97 goals – 82 in the league – and reached the quarter-final of the Challenge Cup.

Manager Ian Overington and coaches Matt Agate, Rob Chiverton and Sebastiano Farci are so proud of all the boys and are looking forward to next season. They thanked parents for their support.

AVISFORD

The final season of Avisford Youth under-12s turned out to be a special one. After two years of good performances without the deserved result, head coach Guy Hunter’s first full campaign saw an improvement in league position and several memorable performances.

Highlights included pushing A division Barnham Trojans all the way in the Challenge Cup, eventually losing 2-1 to a late winner. October saw perhaps the best result of the season as Avisford went to Worthing United Colts, a team who would eventually finish second in D division to earn promotion, and come away with a fantastic 5-1 victory.

Big wins over AFC Worthing Youth Stars and Felpham Colts Rangers also caught the eye of onlookers.

A late surge saw them in contention for third place going into the final game of the season. However a narrow defeat to Whyke United meant Avisford finished fifth.

Now the team begin a new adventure as they will go into the 2016-17 season re-formed as Aldwick Athletic. They will also be making the step up to 11-a-side football.

UNDER-NINE

Bracklesham Youth FC are celebrating another cup victory in only the club’s second league-affiliated season.

The club’s under-nine squad, coached by James Clarke and Trevor Ashley, won the Saywell Arun & Chichester Youth League Kathy & Peter Wilson Cup final.

The game, played at Arundel FC, was a thrilling match which went into extra time.

BYFC, based at Downview Park in Bracklesham Bay, were established in 2013 but were only affiliated to the FA two seasons ago. The club now have teams competing at under-eight, nine, ten and 11 level.

The trophy will sit alongside another trophy won by the club’s under-11s at the beginning of the season, the Saywell Arun & Chichester Youth League Autumn Cup.

The under-nines have two major sponsors – The Prebendal School in Chichester and ZDL Martial Arts, which holds classes across the south.

Coach Clarke said: “We’re so proud of the boys and BYFC as a whole. They played really well all season and the cup-final win was the icing on the cake. This season, BYFC have brought home two pieces of silverware - we couldn’t be more delighted!”

HALF-TERM FUN

A half-term Euro 2016-themed football camp is being staged by Bognor FC at Nyewood Lane.

Six to nine-year-olds can play on May 31 and June 1, with ten to 13s taking their turn on June 2 and 3, with action on all days from 10am to 3pm.

Sessions include coaching from FA-qualified staff plus ‘Euro 2016’ matches.

The cost is £25 to cover two days and every child will receive their own trophy and certificate.
