Chichester City secured a fine win at Keynsham in a meeting of two sides who had only lost one league game each.

The game was played on an artificial pitch, which led to a frantic start, but neither side could find an opening.

The hosts were looking to exploit their pace on the right flank, while Chichester looked dangerous on both wings.

Chances were few and far between, with the majority coming from set-pieces, and it was not a shock that Keynsham took the lead via a free kick.

Chichester gave away a foul on the edge of the area and after hitting the wall, the ball fell kindly to a Keynsham player inside of the box, who stooped low and nodded the ball into the net.

Chichester took a few minutes to compose themselves and they managed to respond by using their width to greater effect, which led to a lot of crosses.

And an equaliser came moments before half-time, when the ball was played down the right to Jade Widdows, whose cross evaded the keeper before falling to the feet of Tammy Waine at the back post for an easy tap-in.

Chichester had the momentum after the restart and patiently moved the ball through midfield as they tried to find an opening in Keynsham’s defence. But despite their dominance, the home side looked dangerous on the counter attack and they would have regained their lead if it was not for Chichester’s resolute defence.

Challen was fouled on the edge of the area after a promising attack, Amy Found stepped up to take the free kick which she bent over the wall before it dipped underneath the crossbar.

Chichester increased their lead when after some quick play forward saw Jemma Fowlie cut the ball inside to Found, who unleashed a strike from 25 yards, which found the top corner.

Keynsham continued to pile players forward and at one point they had four strikers, but despite relentless pressure they could find another goal. This was down to Thompson in the Chichester goal, who stood firm pulling off two great saves to her right-hand side.

Chichester are again in league action away to Maidenhead this Sunday (2pm).

The hosts began to have chances, forcing Louise Galway into a few very good saves.

Chichester created an opportunity for Natalie Clarke as a deflected attempt on goal fell to her on the volley and she forced the goalkeeper into a good save.

Following miscommunication between the Chichester centre-backs, Pompey broke through only for Gemma Halford to pull off a last-ditch challenge.

As half-time approached, a long-range Pompey was superbly tipped on to the bar by Galway, who then pounced on the rebound.

The second half saw Chichester attempt to press higher up the pitch. Pompey continued to create chances and Galway made a terrific reflex save.

Pompey eventually found a breakthrough as they won a corner from which a home player won a free header at the back post.

Chichester began to fight harder to win the ball with Halford and Jodie Prince throwing themselves into some superb challenges.

Chichester did find the net when Bobby Lynch delivered an excellent free-kick into the box and Ella Potter got in front of the goalkeeper to tap in, only to see the offside flag raised.

Pompey had one last chance and a rocket of a shot flew in to make the score 2-0 on 89 minutes.
