The game started in a frantic fashion with chances at both ends. Chichester looked dangerous when going forward and a diagonal through-ball from Emily Symonds, in her first appearance of the season, saw her go one on one with the goalkeeper who managed to pull off a smart save.

On a couple of occasions, Sally Thompson in the Chichester goal had to come off her line and save well when a home striker got on to a through-ball. From a corner a St Nicholas header crashed against the bar.

The breakthrough came when Kally Ambler found herself clear on the right – as she approached the area she pulled the ball back to Waine, who tapped the ball past the keeper.

As the second half started, several chances were created with Dowdell and Fowlie doing well on the flanks and Ambler and Waine looking dangerous in the middle.

It took until the 70th minute for the second to arrive when substitute Widdows found herself in space on the edge of the box and volleyed home.

Shortly after, good work by Ambler led to Widdows having an empty net to tap in the third.

The Green Army saw out the game without conceding.

This week, they are away to Gloucester City (2pm).

With Tottenham coming to Clymping following a 6-0 win at Lewes, Chichester knew this would be tough - and so it was.

City started slowly, allowing Tottenham to get into their stride and have a couple of early opportunitiesl. But Chi began to find their shape and defended well.

With two of the back four needed by the first team, Zoe Hughes-Jones, Becky Steed and Hannah Chalk worked hard together in a new system.

The midfield of Jodie Prince, Sian Payne and Jemma Cottam Verbruggen also operated well and a long ball forward to Lauren Ellis put her one on one with the Tottenham goalkeeper, only for her to shoot wide.

Tottenham punished City’s slow start to the second half when some sloppy errors allowed them to go ahead.

Chi keeper Louise Galway made a stunning save to keep the team in it before Ali O’Boyle came on for her debut.

Ella Potter and Amy Bailey came on and made an instant impact. Bailey outpaced her marker but shot wide.

Spurs scored two in quick succession – first a powerful strike beat Galway, then a rocket went in off the underside of the bar.

This was another game in which the result did not paint the full picture of the game, with City having matched Tottenham for long spells.
