The second string have seen something of a revolution since the start of the season with the late appointment of new head coach Sam Morton and assistant Ben Currie. The duo stepped in a week into the season to work alongside the experienced Dick Seamark.

Having beaten Hassocks’ first team last week Morton was keen for a second consecutive win.

Crawley arrived having had a mixed start and it was soon evident the Lillywhites could cause them issues with the pace of Mills and Foster up front.

The first half was scrappy with Chichester having the majority of possession and Crawley limited to long-range efforts from set-pieces as Paul and Ellis remained resolute in defence.

The second half saw Chi take control after Jodie Pallant and Sian Payne came into the midfield. A neat passing move led to a fantastic effort from Oliver finding the top corner of the net and Mills added a second, weaving through the Crawley defence and smashing the ball home from close range.

The side seem to have found the correct balance between youth and experience with the likes of Lizzy Ogden helping to develop younger players who will be knocking on the first team’s door in years to come.

It finished 2-0 and the side travel to London next week to play Long Lane.

Chi’s under-14 and under-12 girls both took on sides from Lewes Bridge, winning 6-0 and losing 4-3 respectively.

This week the first team travel to Plymouth in a top-of-the-table clash.
