Clubs expecting games to be on

Rye United and Bexhill United expect their matches to go ahead tonight (Tuesday).

Rye are due to host South Park in an FA Vase third round tie, while Bexhill take on Broadbridge Heath in round three of the Sussex RUR Charity Cup.

With no rain forecast for today, it should be third time lucky for Rye’s game after successive postponements over the last two weekends.

An eye-catching last 32 clash at home to Guernsey is at stake for Sussex County League high-flyers Rye if they can see off a South Park side lying ninth in the Combined Counties League Premier Division.

Both teams may be lacking a touch of match sharpness because neither has played since December 1, although Rye striker Andy Atkin is probably grateful for the time off having picked up a tight hamstring while scoring a hat-trick in the league win at Arundel that day.

Kick-off at The Salts is 7.45pm and you can get in-play updates by following @SimonNewstead on Twitter as Rye seek to make it two Sussex sides in the next stage of the national competition. Peacehaven & Telscombe are already through.

Bexhill’s match has been switched to their Polegrove ground following two postponements at Broadbridge Heath, the second of which last Tuesday meant Bexhill avoided having to make a fourth midweek trip to West Sussex this term.

A close contest is in prospect with little to separate the teams in the Sussex County League Division Two table. Broadbridge Heath are fifth, while Bexhill are one point and one place worse off with a game in hand.

They fought out a 1-1 draw at Broadbridge Heath in the league at the end of September. An away quarter-final against Eastbourne United AFC is the reward for the winners and kick-off is 7.45pm.

Sidley United are due to host Westfield in a hastily arranged friendly after both sides had their league games called-off at the weekend. Kick-off at Gullivers is 7.45pm.
