Chichester City Colts 2 Lancing United Youth 1

Chichester City Colts entertained Lancing and avenged their last-minute loss in the reverse fixture earlier in the season.

The early exchanges were fairly even but Colts struck first when skipper Toby Evans won back possession before striving forward and unleashing a fantastic effort from 20 yards that flew into the top corner, giving the Lancing keeper no chance.

Lancing equalised in the second half when a great cross caused confusion between the Colts defence and keeper, allowing a Lancing forward to stab home.

However three minutes later Colts claimed the points when Lee Clayton and Toby Watkins combined to great effect down the right with Watkins hitting the by-line before pulling the ball back to the onrushing Taylor Parker, who lashed the ball home to give Colts all three points.

MoM was James Nicol.

COLTS: Williams, Newton, Angel, Rochester, Simmons, Nicol, Evans, Clayton, Main, Parker, Craddock, S Jones, J Jones, Watkins.

Midhurst & Easebourne under-12s are through to the Invitation Cup final on Sunday March 20 at Arundel FC against Felpham Colts.

Both teams play in the Arun and Chichester Youth League in the under-12B league.

Midhurst have been promoted to the A league for 2016-17 season with one game left. They won’t know until April if they will be league winners or runners-up.

Midhurst Rother College’s Year 9 footballers have been crowned Western West Sussex district champions for the first time in the history of the college.

The squad took the league by storm and remained unbeaten for the season, recently beating nearest-placed rivals Chichester High School for Boys in a top of the table clash to secure the title.

Simon Hills, director of sport and performance, said: “All the students played consistently well across the whole season. Their dedication to training and a positive team attitude has enabled them to fulfil their potential.

“We really believe there are some names to watch out for in the future.”

They are trained by the Southampton FC academy as part of the college’s enrichment programme. The college’s elite footballers, in all year groups, benefit from working closely with the academy team and participate in weekly coaching sessions.

They are eligible to wear the Southampton kit and tracksuits, as well as being given the opportunity to visit Southampton’s stadium and attend home fixtures.

The programme, now in its second year, has seen improvements in the skills of players and vastly-improved results across all year groups.

Two other year groups managed to secure the runners-up position in their leagues. The college look forward to further success in the coming seasons.
