Sheffield United midfielder Stefan Scougall remains on Cook’s radar after his efforts to bring him in before the January transfer window closed.

Pompey are still interested in Sheffield Wednesday’s Caolan Lavery, who hasn’t featured for the Owls since returning to Hillsborough from his loan stay.

Matt Tubbs remains out of favour and is free to leave Fratton Park.

National League outfit Eastleigh are keen on the striker, with manager Chris Todd confirming his interest in the 31-year-old.

Cook was coy on the prospect of bringing in Scougall but confirmed he is expecting more movement.

He said: ‘When the loan window opens it’s an opportunity for lads to come and go.

‘The whole window thing is a bit of a farce now. It’s done for Sky and deadline day but the reality is the loan window opens the next week.

‘I can’t comment on Scougall. I can’t comment on lads like that. I’d be here all night.’

Cook will have a balancing act to carry out if he brings in any further recruits on loan. Pompey already have five loan players at Fratton Park – the maximum amount allowed in a match-day squad, according to Football League rules.

Marc McNulty, Kieron Freeman, Michael Smith, Ryan Fulton and Matt Clarke are the Blues’ loanees.
