Danny Hollands: I want to stay at Pompey

Paul Cook wants to retain the midfielder who turned around his Pompey career so impressively this season.

Now it is over to Hollands to negotiate a deal with chief executive Mark Catlin and finance director Tony Brown.

Yet he is likely to have to accept a wage cut on the two-year contract he signed in May 2014 under Andy Awford.

With Adam Webster’s move to Ipswich set to be announced during the next 24 hours, Hollands is one of the club’s longest-serving players.

And the Fontwell-based 30-year-old wants to remain local and continue at Fratton Park.

He said: ‘I spoke to the manager last week and he said he wanted me to stay, so I’m currently waiting for an offer from the club to find out length of contract and salary.

‘Once I get that I hope it will be a quick process and I can put pen to paper.

‘The manager wants me, which is nice to hear, so I must have done something right. I have enjoyed this season, despite the ending, and don’t want to go anywhere else.

‘I’ve had two full seasons at Portsmouth now. The first year was a very, very hard one for myself and this season I was trying to concentrate on getting back playing well – and thankfully for me I got my head down and was given a chance.

‘I am a local boy, I live in Fontwell, a lot of my friends are Pompey fans and everything is in place for me.

‘My daughters also start school this September so the last thing I want is to up and move and disrupt things.

‘From my perspective, I have enjoyed the football side of things, which is the main thing for me, and there is no reason to want to go elsewhere.

‘I live in Fontwell, I knew what the club was about even before I signed and hopefully I can be part of something helping it move forward.

‘I don’t know what they (the club) are offering. Like any footballer, you want as long a contract as possible and they are the ones going to offer it.

‘But I would like to stay as long as possible.

‘I am happy where I am so there is no reason for me to want to move on.’

Hollands was Richie Barker’s last signing after joining on loan from Charlton in March 2014, although never played under him.

Since then the midfielder has featured in 94 games, scoring seven times.

He added: ‘I felt I did okay this season. You can always improve but I am happy with the performances I put in.

‘It was a different role to what I was used to but I enjoyed it, I enjoyed playing with this group of players, and it’s just a shame the way it ended.

‘If we can keep the majority of this squad together and add a few more then hopefully we can go a step closer and try to get the club back where it deserves.

‘I want to be part of that.’
