Mustapha Dumbuya insisted Pompey’s confidence was flowing again ahead of today’s trip to MK Dons.

The Blues right-back was part of the side that picked up two crucial victories with successive 2-1 wins over Scunthorpe and Yeovil.

And with Michael Appleton’s side chasing a third straight victory today, Dumbuya noted a surge in belief on the training pitch and felt the momentum was back.

Dumbuya said: ‘Those results have definitely made a big difference to everyone’s confidence.

‘We started the season playing quite well but we weren’t getting the results.

‘Now, you can see the difference – especially in training.

‘The tempo is up, everyone looks sharper and we’ve got that belief right now that we can push on.

‘We’re still really gelling together and we all know there is much, much more to come from this team.

‘But I think we can really do something in this league.’

While Appleton remained cautious on Pompey’s hopes and felt avoiding relegation was the main priority, Dumbuya was already looking beyond that immediate goal.

And even though the club’s ownership has yet to be resolved, the Sierra Leone international was optimistic on what can be achieved.

He said: ‘I think we’ve got a squad where we can really push on.

‘We’re not just trying to stay in the league.

‘Those 10 points might get deducted but I think we have got the willpower to push on.

‘We have that belief right now and if we can keep that until the end of the season, this league is our oyster.

‘So hopefully those results can give us that belief to push on.’
