Festive fixtures await Sussex League teams - if weather allows

The icy weather has made it hard for any of our local Sussex League sides to get any sort of momentum going.

But they’ll all be aiming to make up for it with a couple of victories over the Christmas and New Year period.

In division one, Chichester City need to get back to winning ways quickly to minimise the effect of their three-point penalty for fielding an ineligible player.

Selsey have failed to win for a month and need to bounce back from their last game, a 4-1 defeat to Ringmer, while Pagham will want to show their top-three place is no fluke.

Chichester’s league trip to Hailsham and cup tie at East Grinstead Town were both snowed off, while Selsey missed games away to Lingfield and at home to Peacehaven.

Both sides also face the uncertainty of the teams around them having games in hand – so both Adie Girdler and Ian Martin’s sides must capitalise on the one remaining league game they have this calendar year, on Monday, December 27.

Chichester host Arundel, who are one league position above Selsey, while it’s derby day at Nyetimber Lane where Pagham host Selsey. All games that day begin at 11am.
