Football: Chichester ladies find first law of success is good sponsors
Chichester City Ladies have gone from strength to strength over the past three seasons with numerous cup and league wins.
Last season’s promotion to the South East Combination League will bring the likes of Norwich, Ispwich and Crystal Palace to Oaklands Park.
Strong links with the city’s college and university have helped the squad develop over the past few seasons and many of the players are now giving something back to the community through providing voluntary coaching schemes for girls in the area.
The community has rallied around to provide much-needed sponsorship to help with the added financial pressure the new league brings.
ND Autos in Bognor and Chichester College have played a key role in helping replenish the kit and equipment and Owen Kenny have become the main kit sponsor for the ladies.
The Owen Kenny Partnership are a local law firm who provide several services including conveyancing, family law and wills and probate and the deal was struck as part of their efforts to give something to the community.
Brentwood Town 1 Chichester City 2
Chichester ladies opened their league campaign in the South East Combination League with a win against Brentwood Town.
It’s the first time they have played at this level so all were keen to see if they were ready for the step up. Chichester looked the stronger side and stamped their authority after nine minutes with Lucie Challen finishing calmly in front of the Brentwood goal from a quick corner.
Brentwood reacted well and pushed high up the park. Hannah McNamara made an outstanding save to keep Chichester in front.
With both sides playing well, Danielle Paul pinged an outstanding setpiece on to Jade Widdowson’s head and Challen reacted fastest again to lob the keeper from close range.
The heat took its toll on both sides in the second half. Chichester started brightly, holding possession and denying Brentwood opportunities.
Brentwood’s fitness looked stronger and they got one back from a superb set-piece but Chichester held out to take the victory.
Next match is against Norwich this Sunday at Oaklands Park (2pm). It’s just £2 to watch – all support welcome.
