Goal-happy Hassocks ruin Selsey's solid record

Selsey felt the goalscoring force of Hassocks as they were beaten by five first-half goals at the High Street Ground.

Two of the division’s top scorers, Philip Gault and Nathan Miles, each bagged a double as the fourth-placed side added to Selsey’s home woes his season, with Christopher Maynard also on target.

Adam Hinshelwood’s side have now won just a quarter of their home league games so far this term, scoring 16 goals in those 12 games.

And although Daniel Hegarty and Graham Bush were on the scoresheet in the second half on Saturday it was a bad day at the office for Selsey, who’ve now won just once in their past five.

The defeat keeps them 13th in the table, but Arundel and Horsham YMCA are now breathing down their necks with the top half of the table even more distant.

The five-goal haul also dented their proud goal difference, though they still have the best defensive record outside of the top ten.

Hassocks had scored at least twice in each of the four fixtures prior to Saturday’s encounter.

For Selsey the nature of the defeat added more spice to Tuesday’s re-arranged local derby against Chichester City at Oaklands Way.

They visit Sidley on Saturday.
