Wright struck two stunning goals in the space of a minute before the interval in the warm sun at Privett Park.

He completed his treble from the penalty spot after the break.

Warren Bentley also got off the mark for Borough as the hosts netted three times in a five-minute spell in the first half.

It was a disappointing result for the Rocks but they won’t be getting too downhearted about it.

They were without several players who are likely to be regulars once the season gets under way, and there is still two-and-a-half weeks to go before the Ryman premier season begins.

With coach Darin Killpartrick away and Sami El-Abd (a wedding), James Fraser and James Crane (family commitments), Alex Parsons (injured) also missing, it was not the strongest set-up Bognor can boast.

They are hopeful the absentees will be back on duty tonight.

The Rocks gave another start to Billy Granger in goal as they weigh him up as a possible replacement for Grant Smith, who has joined Boreham Wood.

Ed Sanders, Daryl Wollers, Chad Field and Gary Charman made up the back four, with Harvey Whyte, Darren Budd, new face Tony Lee and Doug Tuck in midfield.

Jimmy Wild and Ollie Pearce were again up front and Pearce was unlucky not to put the Rocks ahead with a long-range effort that came back off the post.

On the subs’ bench for Bognor at Privett Park were Finton Walsh, Matt Penfold, Will Robinson and Dan Beck.

On Wednesday (July 27) Bognor play their biggest pre-season game when Pompey visit Nyewood Lane.

The club hope for a crowd of around 2,000 with many Blues fans expected to make the trip to the Lane to see how their team are shaping up.

It will be a stiff test for a Bognor team still working their way up to another attempt at Ryman League glory.

Bognor are in further pre-season friendly action on Friday when they make their shortest trip possible, to Pagham.

One more friendly remains, a visit to Horsham on Thursday of next week.
