SIDLESHAM’S match at home to Billingshurst was given the go-ahead after the committee and managerial staff got rid of most of the surface water on the pitch.
Injuries and holidays gave the manager the chance to bring in some of the his new signings for a Sussex League division-three clash that the Sids won 1-0.
The match was never going to be pretty with the pitch cutting up quickly but play was end to end.
Halfway through the first half a through-ball to Daniel Millins saw him round the keeper but the ball was a little too far in front of him and his shot hit the side netting.
Billingshurst created a couple of half-chances which came to nothing.
The second half saw Billingshurst putting the Sids defence under pressure and a rash tackle in the penalty area resulted in a penalty, but keeper Ashley Rochester pulled off a great save.
The Sids were stung into action and two chances were blasted over the bar, but on 65 minutes their hard work was rewarded when Dean Platt played Tom Kelly through and his well-hit shot went in - marking his debut with what turned out to be the winner.
Billingshurst continued to test the Sids and another great save by Rochester denied them.
The Sids brought on Darren Cox and Joe Jefkins for their debuts and the side saw out the last few minutes safely for their second consecutive win which put them fourth in the league.
SIDS: Rochester, Low, Newton, Carrigher, Whitehead, Robinson, Millins, Kelly, Platt, McCoy, Phillips, Cox, Jefkins.
