It’s a happy Storey for Bosham

Bosham inflicted a humiliating 4-0 defeat on early Southern Combination division two leaders Roffey with a four-goal thumping to end Roffey’s unbeaten start to the season.

Devon Fender was the top scorer in the league going into the tie but the Robins were excellent in keeping him quiet and Dave Storey bragged a double as the Reds emphatically took the points to move up to fifth.

On the quarter-hour, after a spell of pressure, Bosham took the lead – but Storey knew little about it. Storey chased through to challenge keeper Michael Norris, and when Norris attempted to clear the danger he hit the ball directly into Storey and the rebound trickled agonisingly over the goal line before any defender could get there.

Fender showed good pace and ideas for Roffey but they were sadly lacking in the final third and Bosham keeper Kieran Magee was untroubled.

On the hal-hour the Robins got the crucial cushion of a second goal when captain James Wilson slotted home a spot-kick after a penalty was carelessly given away by Claude Pett.

Bosham continued to press and had a third in the bag as Roffey became more and more dis-spirited. Alex Barnes stormed through a static defence and played the perfect ball to Storey, who needed no invitation to fire into the bottom corner.

The leaders were shellshocked as they left the park at the interval while Bosham went in with every intention of adding more.

Roffey did improve in the second period with Dan Dunster and Harri Nourse testing Magee with useful efforts but Bosham’s shot-stopper had no problem keeping them at bay.

Just after the hour, Neil Redman burst through on goal but Norris did excellently to prevent the striker from netting.

Barnes struck home a fourth for Bosham – this time Storey was the provider as Barnes surged through and expertly nicked the ball past Norris and into the empty net.

It was a perfect afternoon’s work for Bosham and with an away trip to Upper Beeding next week, there is a real air of optimism around Walton Lane.
