A first-half effort from Scott Jones and Daniel Watts’ strike six minutes from time gave them a two-goal cushion.

Last year’s runners-up ensured a nervy ending for Miles Rutherford’s side when Layton Schaaf pulled one back on 86 minutes.

Summer recruit Jones kept his scoring run going and fired City ahead after six minutes.

The home side had to wait until six minutes before the end to double their advantage courtesy of a Watts strike.

Chichester City were at Littlehampton last night and host Lancing in the Peter Bentley Cup on Saturday.

* Selsey’s goal-happy start to the season continued as they hammered AFC Varndeanians 5-1 in their first league game.

A Lindon Miller hat-trick and strikes by Tom Groom and Ciaran McGreal sealed a 5-1 win.
