The 28-year-old Israel international put pen to paper earlier this afternoon at the American Express Elite Football Performance Centre until the end of the 2018-19 season.

Voted the club's player of the season last year, Kayal is currently recovering from ankle surgery following an injury sustained against Barnsley in September.

Kayal made 46 appearances last season when Albion just missed out on promotion to the Premier League and had played eight times this campaign, before his injury.

Albion boss Chris Hughton said: "It is important to us that we keep hold of our key players, and we are absolutely delighted that Beram has signed his new contract.

"He thoroughly deserves it; he had an outstanding season for us last year, and was a key player for us. He is a great professional, and an important member of the team, on and off the pitch.

"He is making very good progress with his rehabilitation, and now we look forward to welcoming him back to the squad soon, knowing he will have a significant role to play."

Kayal joined Albion from Celtic during the January transfer window in 2015. So far he has made 72 appearances for the club, scoring three times.

He is also a full Israel international, winning 31 caps for his country and finding the net once.
