Ladies' football kits are perfectly legal

The firm, who offer who legal support around divorce, conveyancing and family law, made a decision three years ago to invest in the community in which they operate.

Chichester City Ladies provide footballing opportunities for females of all abilities and ages from the surrounding area. The community ethos shared by both parties is best reflected in the community work the ladies’ football club are engaged in.

The senior players volunteer on a weekly basis, coaching girls at their regular Saturday club and the football festivals run for local schools out of Chichester College.

Owen Kenny’s valuable donation, now running over four seasons, has enabled Chichester Ladies to buy an away kit for the first time.

The club and Owen Kenny share green and white as their colours - as reflected in the home kit which the solicitors also sponsor - but the colours for the change strip are amber and black to reflect the history of CCFC and their previous links with Portfield FC.

After two cup games which brought ten goals for and none against, Chichester took their great form back into the league to move joint top of the league with a game in hand.

With Wride and Widdowson providing excellent through-balls, Strudwick and Challen were finding early space behind the full-backs and putting searching balls into the box. But Chichester were unable to convert any chances.

The best chance of the half fell to Challen when a well-timed run to the back post saw her volley the ball narrowly over.

With 14 shots in the first half, Chichester felt they should be going in ahead but a fantastic performance from the Portsmouth goalkeeper meant the sides went in level.

Chichester started the second half with several corners in quick succession. With Strudwick delivering some testing balls, it was only a matter of time before one provided a goalscoring chance. One caused confusion after a flick-on and Widdowson volleyed in.

That spurred on Chichester and they began to search for a second. The introduction of Fowlie paid almost-immediate dividends when she picked up the ball on the left, beat two players and rifled a fearsome shot into the top corner from 20 yards.

The third finally came when Shrubb was put through on goal. The keeper got a touch to Shrubb’s shot but Cheshire was on hand to apply the finish.

Fowlie said: “All the girls knew how important this game was and knew Portsmouth would provide us with a tough test. After scoring so many goals in our previous two games, we needed to make sure we didn’t become complacent and put in a performance to guarantee three points.”

The ladies host Gloucester city in the first round of the FA Cup on Sunday (1pm).

City triumphed in this first-versus-second clash.

Chichester started by winning all the 50/50 challenges. Amy Bailey did well down the right and delivered a few good crosses which Wivelsfield cleared.

Hannah Chalk broke down Chichester’s left and delivered the ball into the box where Bailey gambled on the bounce, and her effort was deflected by a defender into the net.

Bailey repeatedly got past her player and delivered a cross or won a corner. Jodie Greenway’s delivery from set-pieces was outstanding.

Wivelsfield’s keeper cleared a ball and it landed for Chalk, who hit her effort early with her weaker foot and lobbed the stranded keeper to make it 2-0.

A couple of balls over the top were swept up well by Naomi Parfoot in Chichester’s goal.

Stacy Baker and Annie Richardson were dealing with anything and setting up Greenway, who was working well with Jemma Cottam-Verbruggen.

An outstanding free-kick from the corner of the box from Greenway hit the roof of the net for 3-0.

Wivelsfield thought they had scored from a corner but the ball had swung out of play before it came back in.

At the start of the second half Richardson, Parfoot and Baker set up woman of the match Bailey for a run and finish to make it 4-0.

Georgia Selby had a strike well saved by the Wivelsfield keeper. Wivelsfield’s striker headed home only to see the offside flag raised.

Baker and Gemma Halford both missed chances to make it five

The teams meet again on Sunday at Wivelsfield in the League Cup second round.
