Bognor boss Jack Pearce and coach Robbie Blake are busy making plans for when it is safe to gather the Rocks squad for pre-season training sessions -- but in the meantime the work continues behind the scenes in preparation for the return of football.

And Nyewood Lane general manager Simon Cook has admitted he is still astonished at the incredible support from fans and well-wishers after the club launched a campaign to boost its funds in the wake of the coronavirus crisis.

Work is under way in preparation for the construction of a new 367-seat grandstand along with a new covered area behind the goal at the Seasons End as well as new floodlights, a new PA system and a new toilet block.

The Crowdfunder appeal has burst through the £30,000 target and is inching close to £42,000 and Cook says the donations have been amazing given the difficult times in which we have lived with the Covid-19 pandemic creating so much uncertainty.

He said: "We've been totally blown away by the kindness from supporters and local businesses who have got behind the club in trying times. Our appreciation is enormous -- it is just overwhelming. Love for the club is off the scale."

His comments come after two of the club's main sponsors once again pledged their support for the Rocks by renewing their backing with kit sponsorship deals.

Kevin Welling Plumbing & Heating will again be the back-of-the-shirt sponsors, while Concise Surfacing Ltd are to remain as the sponsors of the team's shorts. The news follows another exciting development with Mitchell's Travel, the official travel partner to Bognor, confirmed as new media sponsors.

And Cook added: "Be it businesses or supporters, the affection for the club continues to shine through and it means that we have the best chance possible of watching great football at a great venue when football is back. We can't wait."

Meanwhile, Cook joined commercial manager Dave Robinson at the unveiling of the newly refurbished turnstiles at the ground after a deal was struck with Sportshield to be the club’s official insurance partner. The company provides not only insurance services to clubs and their members, but also a range of ways to save money and to increase revenue.

Sportshield regional director Michael Dorrington said: "We're delighted to team up with the Rocks and look forward to providing our award-winning insurance policies that are not just for people participating in sport, but for all walks of life.”
