Moy oh Moy - Zac hits six for City slickers

Victories for Chichester City, Chi City Colts Red, 13-goal Midhurst and Easebourne, Predators, Pagham Colts, Selsey Seals and Felpham Colts are all among our latest youth football reports.

UNDER-14

Predators Youth 2 Chichester City 8

City started to pile on the pressure forcing saves from the keeper and hitting the woodwork, but Predators took the lead when Jordan Lee tapped in after latching on to a long goal kick.

Chichester responded within a minute with a simple through-ball for Zac Moy to take round the keeper. Moy got the pick of his six goals five minutes before the break, picking the ball up in the City half and taking it past several players and passing it in at the keeper’s near post.

Predators equalised before the break with an identical goal from Lee.

City pushed on in the second half with Moy getting four more. Alfie Shaw made a run from midfield to meet a perfect cross from Collins Alfred to head in and Patric Turner finished things off by winning the ball on the halfway line and sprinting past the defence to smash the ball in.

The boys voted Moy man of the match but there were also notable performances by Will Hutchins at right-back, Shaw in midfield and Turner up front.

Chi City Colts Red 4 Worthing Town Youth Blue 2

Colts’ new signing Tom Cherral got on the scoresheet early on with a well-taken goal. A moment’s lapse in concentration allowed Worthing to draw level before the break.

The second half brought changes to the Colts side, with Kemp back in action and Cherral working off an earlier knock.

Kemp made an impact with his first goal for the club then added a great goal from long distance.

Worthing pulled it back to 3-2 but with great work from the front pair of Newman and Bramley Ayre, the latter having a goal ruled out for offside.

Newman finished the game off with a well-taken goal to give Colts a well deserved win.

UNDER-15

Midhurst & Easebourne 13 Worthing Town Youth 2

Although the result shows Midhurst dominating the game, Worthing did play good football.

Midhurst could do no wrong once the goal was in sight. They played well as a team and continued to do so throughout.

Burtoo netted four and Midhurst’s best goal was from Field Millard with a long-range shot. Mepham, Papaj and Warren got two each and there were also goals from Murphy and Greet.

Regis 2000 1 Predators 6

On a hot Sunday afternoon, Predators met local rivals Regis 2000 for the first time this season.

Predators keeper Williams pulled off a great save in the opening minutes. Predators gained control and a fantastic cross from Farndell saw Irish head home.

A cross from Farndell saw Josling hit number two. Irish netted his second header, Josling scored again and Birch made a fantastic saving header on the line for Predators to lead 4-0 at the break.

Josling completed his first hat-trick of the season and Furlong kept Regis out of the game with a great clearance off the line.

Farndell took advantage of a loose ball and found the net for the sixth.

In the final minutes, Regis were awarded a free-kick just outside the area. Despite defending in numbers, Preadtors couldn’t keep it out.

Predators’ man of the match was Farndell.

UNDER-16

Pagham Colts 6 Ferring Youth 0

Pagham secured a comfortable victory.

From the first whistle there was energy and purpose in their play and they opened the scoring after a few minutes.

Billy Stevens combined well with Sam Clarke to set up Dan Gonzalez to score from close range.

Five minutes later Stevens made it two from a Johan VanDriel pass. Gonzalez was then put through to lob the onrushing goalie for the third.

Two minutes later Sam Clarke, having a fine debut, crossed for Ryan Barratt to make it four in under 20 minutes.

Another ten minutes had passed when Clarke was again the provider as he set up Gonzalez to complete his hat-trick.

The second half saw only one further goal added which came from another debutant Liam Kitchener, who unleashed a cracking shot from 25 yards.

UNDER-13

Predators Youth 0 Selsey Seals Blue 1

Predators were brought back to earth in a dour and bruising encounter.

Defences dominated the first half, with no clear -cut chances created.

The game desperately needed a goal and finally the deadlock was broken by a the award of a hotly-disputed penalty for Seals.

Both sides hit the woodwork but time ran out with Predators losing a hard-fought tussle which could have gone either way.

UNDER-11

The Oakwood School under-11 boys’ football team (pictured at the top of the article) are over the moon after a brilliant performance at the Lancing College six-a-side tournament.

Competing against 23 other teams from schools all over the south-east, despite being last-minute entrants, the Oakwood players won every match before they faced a very strong team from St Andrew’s School in Eastbourne in the final.

It was a nail-biting 1-1 draw but Oakwood lost to a golden goal by St Andrews in extra time, although went home justifiably proud of their teamwork and skill.

UNDER-NINE

Felpham Colts 4 Worthing United Youth 1

Felpham returned to winning ways after three narrow defeats.

They started strongly with Lewis Walker and Sam Blunt controlling the midfield and Max Searle and Fraser Partridge stopping everything in defence.

After ten minutes Luke Hubbard raced on to a long goal kick by Zak Cogger and placed the ball past the oncoming goalkeeper.

Minutes later Hubbard scored his second with a classy left-foot shot.

Ten minutes into the second half Worthing scored from a corner, but this made the Colts work harder and Blunt arrived at the back post to fire one home.

With time running out, man of the match Hubbard completed his hat-trick with a fine lob over the keeper.

A superb display against a well-organised team gave the Colts three points.
