Mullets exit cup at St Francis

ARUNDEL Football Club exited the John O’Hara Cup 2-0 at St Francis Rangers on Tuesday (February 19) when the hosts scored early and then late on.

In between, Mullets, who were without Mike Huckett (rib injury), Dave Walker and Tony Timms (unavailable) and Grant Thetford (cup-tied), had several chances and boss Brett Torode was pleased with the way his side played.

Rangers went ahead on six minutes through Josh Perry, but Arundel then took control and had numerous chances to level.

Harvey Sparks forced a good save from the St Francis keeper and Ryan Warr’s rebound was also saved. Scott Tipper, who is back at Arundel, volleyed over and then flashed a header wide, before sub James Wotherspoon had two one-on-one openings saved.

Tipper also went close on two more occasions, before St Francis doubled their lead with an excellent 20-yard lob from Pat Rose on 77 minutes.

Torode said: “We had so many chances and I was absolutely gutted afterwards.

“I thought we were the better side after their early goal but we just didn’t take our chances and they had three chances and scored twice, so it was very frustrating.”
