Pagham 6 Loxwood 0
RUR Cup quarter-final
That’s more like it. After a couple of blips in recent weeks, the Lions cruised into the RUR Cup semi-finals, scoring six goals for the second match in a row.
They thought they’d taken the lead in the third minute, but Ryan Morey’s strike was ruled out for offside. Three minutes later they did open the scoring as Scott Murfin’s header gave Harrison Hilfiker no chance in Loxwood’s goal.
Loxwood went on the attack, with Toby House and Michael Wood having chances. But they’d reckoned without the brilliance of James Binfield as the Pagham stopper did his best to keep the Lions ahead.
Goal number two arrived after 12 minutes as Hilfiker made a hash of things, leaving Liam Humphries with the net at his mercy.
Mark Cave created an opening for the visitors on 19 minutes, only to be wrong-footed at the crucial moment.
Humphries latched on to a Jordan Warren cross but his shot went over the bar. Hilfiker foiled Lloyd Rowlatt as Pagham searched for another.
A few minutes later, the third arrived courtesy of a Morey shot. Good build-up work from Murfin created the chance, Morey striking home with glee.
A booking for Loxwood’s Lewis Scally followed a scything tackle on Rowlatt. Keiron Pamment went close with a shot that shaved the outside of the post before Morey got the fourth just before half-time. A shot down the middle of the goal gave Hilfiker no chance.
Loxwood started positively after the break, forcing two great saves from Binfield. An unseemly melee on 52 minutes resulted in the referee choosing not to punish anyone despite of angry words and players being pushed over.
Murfin almost repeated his goal trick shown against Shoreham on 59 minutes as a corner was sent straight to Hilfiker. A cross at the other end saw Scally head towards Pagham’s goal, only for Binfield to get in the way again.
With the Lions’ tails up, it wasn’t long before number five arrived. Joe Shelley’s cross was despatched beyond Hilfiker by Pamment’s header.
Pamment and Morey each went close to increasing the lead before a Humphries header made it 6-0 on 75 minutes.
This seemed to wake the visitors as sub Harvey Entiknap had a shot scrambled wide. A dubious booking for Shelley five minutes before the end for time-wasting ironically caused more time to be wasted as the referee explained his decision.
Ryan Cox sent a stinging shot across goal before Loxwood’s Matt Daniel twice forced Binfield into action.
Pagham: Binfield, N Murfin (Cox 75), Warren, Swain, Wollers, Humphries, Clark, Rowlatt, Pamment, S Murfin, Morey (Bingham 75). Unused subs: Irish, Davidson.
Worthing Utd 1 Pagham 6
Hat-tricks by Kieron Pamment and Ryan Morey ensured a handsome win for the Lions.
Pamment broke the deadlock on the half-hour before adding a second two minutes before the break.
Pagham all but sealed the victory a minute later with Pamment completing a quickfire hat-trick to make it 3-0.
The second half belonged to winger Morey. His first came 20 minutes from time, before Paul Elliott pulled one back for United on 75 minutes.
Morey netted twice more in the final ten minutes to round off a comprehensive win for Pagham.
They entertain Eastbourne Utd Assoc on Saturday.
