Pain at Pevensey for Chichester under-16s

UNDER-16

The visitors struck the woodwork four times but the result was never really in doubt in an entertaining game.

On the plus side, there was a very assured performance in defence from debutante Nicole Buckingham.

The drama started early with Chichester’s first stand-in keeper Isola Hilton saving a Pevensey penalty after four minutes then keeping out a curling free-kick a few moments later. Chichester nearly took the lead when Jodie Adfield’s well-struck shot hit the angle of post and bar, but were behind a minute later, caught out on the break.

The visitors were not behind for long. Jess Harnett fed a delightful ball to Lauren Ellis, who turned and shot from just outside the box.

However, they were always struggling against the pacy Pevensey attack and the home side scored their second a few moments later.

Harnett’s fantastic curling shot from the edge of the area hit the bar. After the break Chichester continued to press, with three clear-cut chances. However, a second penalty, successfully converted, caused their heads to drop a bit and they conceded a fourth just before the final whistle.

CHICHESTER: Coral Campbell, Gabi Fisher, Courtney De Ste Croix, Alice Leeming, Jodie Adfield, Amy Howes, Lucie Challen, Isola Hilton, Jess Harnett, Lauren Ellis, Nichole Buckingham.
