Michael Smith’s 35th-minute goal secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory at in-form AFC Wimbledon tonight.

The result was enough to book a play-off place for the Blues, with two fixtures to spare.

Despite losing nine players to injury – plus Paul Jones at half-time – it was a gutsy display from the visitors.

And they got the result they deserved at Kingsmeadow.

He said: ‘We were excellent tonight. Wimbledon are on a fantastic run and we were good, we created clear-cut chances.

‘I don’t really remember Wimbledon having a clear-cut chance all night and great credit to the personnel.

‘It puts us on 75 points and I’ve said all along you just keep going, believing in what you are doing, where we finish in the league is where we deserve to finish.

‘There are a lot of positive signs from us as a club.

‘We were just good tonight and had a very strong team performance – and great credit to the fans, who had great humour.’
