Pitch progress and sponsors’ interest boosts Chichester City

STAFF and volunteers at Chichester City FC are already preparing for the season ahead.

Chairman Mike Madden is upbeat about the coming year and said: “With things getting straightened off the pitch we have, for the first time in a few years, had time to work on with the other important areas of the club.”

One area neglected in the past is the pitch. City have struggled for many years to produce a playing surface that can match their ambitions.

Madden said: “Pitch improvements are a priority. The playing philosophy of our men’s and ladies’ teams is to play attractive football and we understand the importance of a good surface.

“We’ve been able to make some investment in the pitch and work is well under way. This, along with a plan for more major works in 2014, should bring our pitch to a much higher standard.”

There is also the question of finance. City rely on the support of business partners in the district, along with volunteers to assist with the day-to-day activities of a community football club, on and off the pitch.

This season’s sponsorship has been offered on a draw basis and response to the announcement of this in last week’s Observer has been positive.

Madden said: “The article has encouraged a number of local businesses to support our club and discuss the things being done. We’re extremely pleased with this reaction - it’s great to think the local community is seeing what is happening at their club and willing to give us backing. It means an awful lot to our staff, supporters and players and just the interest so far has created a real buzz.”

Volunteers are always welcome to join the staff and entry to the sponsorship draw will be available for the next three weeks.
