Plum senior cup draw for Common

Little Common were handed a mouthwatering tie in this morning’s (Tuesday) Sussex Senior Cup third round draw.

The Commoners’ reward for splendid wins at home to Chichester City and Southwick is a plum clash at home to Eastbourne Borough.

Four divisions separate Common and a Borough side which lies 10th in the Blue Square Bet South having been relegated from Blue Square Bet Premier last season.

Borough won the county’s premier knockout competition in 2008/09, were runners-up to Brighton & Hove Albion reserves last season, and were semi-finalists in 2009/10 and 2007/08.

They won 8-1 at home to Sidley United in a third round clash two seasons ago and beat Rye United 3-0 at Priory Lane in the quarter-finals last term.

Bottom of Sussex County Football League Division Two, Common are the lowest ranked team left in the Sussex Senior Cup and have been eliminated from the other three knockout competitions they’ve entered this season.

In other ties, Hastings United will travel to Crawley Down if they win at home to Lancing next Tuesday, while Rye United will entertain Burgess Hill Town should they get the better of Bognor Regis Town tomorrow night.

Westfield will travel to Whitehawk if they overcome Eastbourne United AFC at The Parish Field on Saturday. Dates for the last 16 matches are yet to be confirmed.
