And the forward thanked Blues fans for the backing which has allowed him to play with freedom in a whirlwind return to the pro ranks.

The 22-year-old missed out against Morecambe and Carlisle as he was taken out of the firing line.

But his high-tempo play has been appreciated at his new club, and the former Barnet man promised he has more of that to offer.

Lowe said: ‘The support’s a massive thing to have. I think it’s because I’m keen.

‘They’ve maybe seen a bit of enthusiasm and they like that.

‘That’s what I’m about really – and that’s not going to change. Hopefully they stay onside with me. The gaffer has said it rubs off on people.

‘If that’s going to help the team go in the right direction it’s a good thing to have.

‘Before I wasn’t so much fearless as reckless! It was one kind of madness or the other. Either I’d dribble the length of the pitch and score or I’d give it away and they’d go and score!

‘It’s good to have in your game, but I have to be more tactical within that. If I am to progress I need to know when to pass and when to dribble. I have to find that balance.’

Lowe’s elevation from the Conference South with Hampton & Richmond to league football has come at hurtling pace.

After signing in October, Lowe’s Pompey career began in earnest in January, after his final non-league outing.

It didn’t take long for things to accelerate.

‘When I came in I travelled to watch two or three games. I went to Doncaster and Luton at home,’ said Lowe.

‘The game after that against Leyton Orient I made the bench.

‘Since then it’s been a rollercoaster. I came on and then it was start, start, start.

‘My first start was Wycombe. We didn’t get the result but the gaffer was happy with how we played.

‘That was the start of where the good run came from and we haven’t lost since then. It’s been great.’

Pompey know a win against Crewe tomorrow will lift them into the automatic promotion spots, if Carlisle lose or draw at Plymouth.

Lowe added: ‘It’s a chance to get into the top three.

‘I don’t think there’s any pressure to do it this weekend, but it’s be a great thing to see results go our way and it happen.’
