Richie Barker is still hopeful of persuading Brentford to extend the loan of Toumani Diagouraga.

The League One outfit appear to have made their position clear with Bees boss Mark Warburton suggesting the deal would not extend into a second month because the midfielder is needed back in the ranks at Griffin Park.

Warburton said: ‘Toumani has done well and we’ve been getting good reports from Portsmouth.

‘He’ll come back and play an important part.

‘We need to have players match fit and available.’

But Barker insists he has not had that discussion with his Brentford counterpart yet.

The Blues boss said: ‘I haven’t spoken to Mark about him (Diagouraga) yet.

‘He has two more games with us, so we will get those out of the way and then I will speak to him about it.

‘T is close to the Brentford team but we will have to see how it pans out.

‘He has done well for us and we would like to be able to keep him if we can.’

Barker also revealed another Blues loanee, Daniel Alfei, was injured on international duty – even though he didn’t play for Wales under-21s last week.

The youngster reported for duty – missing Pompey’s trip to Chesterfield – but picked up the injury and was ruled out of the 0-0 draw with Cheltenham.

But the Pompey boss is hopeful the Swansea right-back could return for tomorrow night’s clash with Burton Albion at Fratton Park.

Barker said: ‘Dan got a sore hamstring when he was away with Wales.

‘He pulled out of the Wales squad when he was away with them for a few days.

‘We don’t know if he will be available for the Burton game.

‘We’ll see how he is but we’re hoping it was caught in time.’

The Blues were also hit with another injury blow, which limited Barker’s selection options in the Fratton Park stalemate, when Andy Barcham picked up a thigh strain in training on Friday.

Barker said: ‘Andy Barcham pulled his thigh in training on Friday.

‘We were doing a bit of finishing at the end of the session and pulled his thigh.

‘We don’t know how long he will be out for as yet but he’s obviously a doubt for the Burton game.’
