It was another disappointing Blues showing last night as they slipped to a 1-0 defeat at Barnet in League Two.

Former Pompey striker John Akinde scored the only goal from the penalty spot in the 41st-minute at The Hive.

That capped an awful first half from the visitors, who did at least rally after the break.

The leveller never emerged, however, and the Blues now find themselves in eighth spot – one place out of the play-offs.

Cook said: ‘I am just very, very disappointed.

‘We had a great travelling support and it is easy to say we have let them down but football is a tough game and sometimes people have kneejerk reactions.

‘The fans were really upset after the game and I understand that.

‘I have no issues with that but the players gave their all, they really did.

‘There wasn’t a player out there, especially in the second half, who shirked his responsibilities.

‘And to play for Portsmouth can be tough at times because the fans are demanding.

‘Managing is the same and now and again you must show a bit of character, last night was one of those nights.

‘There are 15 games to go, there’s a long way to go this season.

‘I do understand the fans’ frustrations.

‘But at times like this we really need them.

‘It’s not about me, it’s not about my career or the players.

‘We need them, we need each other so bad it’s untrue.

‘We have 15 games to go, last night we were flat and disappointed and the reality is we must bounce back.’
