Pompey boss mulls over changes

Guy Whittingham will weigh up reshuffling his Pompey pack at Torquay.

The Blues boss will be forced into at least one change as his team look to extend their unbeaten run at Plainmoor tomorrow.

Sonny Bradley serves a one-game ban after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season against Wycombe, which stands despite Tuesday’s game being abandoned.

Joe Devera looks favourite to shift to the middle of defence, with Shaun Cooper and Danny East vying for the left-back role.

Whittingham is mulling over the best way to pick up their second clean sheet on the bounce.

He said: ‘I’ve pretty much decided how it will go.

‘We’ve had it in view because Sonny and Jed have been on four yellows for a couple of weeks now.

‘When you have players that close you tend to have things in mind.

‘Danny has been okay and Shaun’s a good pro, who had a problem, but has trained fine for a while now.

‘Joe’s been fine. He sees himself as a centre-half and so do we, but it’s been needs must. He’s a good defender who can play.’

Whittingham is also considering whether to bring Andy Barcham back.

One way to do that would be to use Ricky Holmes further forward, as he did at Torquay in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.

‘Getting Barchy in is always a consideration,’ said Whittingham.

‘He has been one of our best players this season.

‘He knows sooner or later he will get back in.

‘We went with a different system at Torquay in the JPT.

‘We knew with Barchy playing well, Ricky wanting to get in the side and Jed playing well it was a way we could go.

‘You can talk systems, but it’s all about players.’
