Pompey have Shots in their summer sights

Pompey have arranged a pre-season friendly against Aldershot.

Michael Appleton’s side will face the League Two outfit at their EBB Stadium on Wednesday, August 1 (7.45pm).

The last time the Hampshire sides met was in an FA Cup tie in December 1982.

On that occasion, the Shots ran out 3-1 winners at Fratton Park – Neil Webb netting for the hosts.

Now the clubs will meet at the stadium more commonly known as the Recreation Ground as pre-season continues to take shape.

Pompey have already lined up friendlies at the Hawks (Saturday, July 14) and AFC Wimbledon (Wednesday, August 8).

There is also a fixture against Gibraltar (Friday, July 20) during a 10-day Spanish training camp.

The Blues will play a second match during their Spanish stay, although the details have yet to be revealed.

In addition, there will be one friendly staged at Fratton Park.

This will be a Saturday fixture against an English club and the details are currently being finalised.

It will all add to up to six pre-season friendlies this summer.

Aldershot are managed by former Bolton and Hawks striker Dean Holdsworth.

He led them to 11th spot in League Two this season – six points off a play-off place.

Their squad features Bradley Bubb, who was once on trial at Pompey when Steve Cotterill was manager.

The striker netted the only goal of the game against Reading in a behind-closed-doors friendly in February 2008.

He subsequently returned to Farnborough, from where he joined Aldershot last summer.

Ticket prices for the friendly with Aldershot are priced at £10 for adults and £5 for concessions.
