The Irishman has been with Pompey since Monday as they run the rule over him.

First-team coach, Ian Foster, explained it’s a chance for the talent to make an impression.

Foster said: ‘He’s a young player who was recommended to us.

‘We always welcome players into the building, particularly the young lads.

‘We like them to come in, play football and give them a taste of what Portsmouth Football Club is about.

‘We want to give them the platforms to showcase their talents.

‘Sometimes it works for them, sometimes it doesn’t.

‘A case in point on that front would be Ben Tollitt from last year.

‘Ben came in, lit the place up and earned himself a contract.

‘It gives Dean a chance to show us what he’s about.’

Amine Linganzi remains with Cook’s squad and was given another opportunity to impress against Bognor with a 69-minute outing.

Foster explained assistant manager, Leam Richardson is the influence behind the midfielder’s presence at Pompey.

He said: ‘Amine’s been in a bit longer than Dean.

‘Leam’s familiar with him from his time at Accrington Stanley.

‘We’ve invited him in to showcase his talent and see if he’s worthy of a contract.’
