Predators 2 Holbrook 1

West Sussex League premier division

Predators gave a solid performance with a bit of a scratch side.

With a number of players away or injured, the Tigers were down to the bare 12. But they started much the stronger and were unlucky not to go ahead very early as a linesman’s flag kept the attack at bay.

Louie Josling and Toby Lauder went close early on and keeper Luke Munt was kept quiet by the marshalling of Lee Sanders, Josh Lauder, Carl Martin and Warren Sutch.

It was a bit of a shock for Predators to go a goal down. A ball wasn’t dealt with by the defence and a Holbrook striker put the ball in the roof of the net.

This took the wind out of the Tigers but they regained control and, after good work from Toby Lauder on the right, Josling had no trouble finishing.

The winner came shortly after as Lauder raced into the box to beat the defenders and the keeper to the ball for 2-1.

Man of the Match was Jolyon Hillier after his switch to midfield.

The game finished with three Lauders on the pitch – Josh and Toby and their dad Mike.

Predators: Munt, Sanders , Martin, Sutch , J Lauder, T Lauder, M Lauder, Hillier, Mackingtosh, Josling, Nash, Richards.

* Predators signed a new sponsorship deal with Invictus Security. Andrew Alston, owner of Invictus, has vowed to support the club for the remainder of the season and into the next. He has already purchased matchballs for the older age groups and the men’s side.

Captain and manager Michael Woolston and Haydn Aldred welcomed the new backer to the club.

Henfield 0 Lavant 1

Malcolm Simmnonds Cup

Lavant booked themselves a spot in the cup final with a semi-final victory at Henfield.

The home side were clear underdogs with the sides at opposite ends of the table and with Lavant having put 6 past the hosts earlier in the season. But it was a cup tie on a bumpy pitch and on a gusty day.

Henfield started with the wind behind them and playing down the hill. Steve Scott up front was a handful but centre-backs Matt Lyttle and Simon Augustus marshalled him well.

Buoyed by the resilience of the back line, Lavant grew into the tie and Pete Caveney and Ash Hawkes on the flanks were the outlets.

With half-time approaching good play between Dan Baker and Hawkes down the right found James Sandford in the box. Showing great control he spun and fired the ball into ground, over the hapless keeper.

In the second half Lavant had the benefit of the wind and the slope. Baker was in superb form holding up the ball.

Lavant had to endure a few nervy moments but could also have extended their lead but for some excellent keeping to deny Baker, Sanford and James Brooks.

The final sees Lavant meet West Chiltington.

Lavant: Court, Grace, Wright, Augustus, Lyttle, Brooks, Mclaren, Sandford, Hawkes, Caveney, Baker. Subs: Stevens, Hancock, Cieszynski.

East Dean 3 Angmering 6

Championship south

In the final game of East Dean’s season, Angmering came up trumps to ruin the home side’s day.

East Dean took the lead 20 minutes in when James Ford took the ball off the keeper and slotted into an empty net. He bagged his second shortly after.

Angmering pulled one back and it was 2-2 within a few minutes, Angmering converting a penalty.

Just before half-time Karl Clark put East Dean back in front, finishing brilliantly from the edge of the box.

Angmering were a changed side in the second half. Although East Dean started well, Angmering eventually equalised. The goal gave them confidence and allowed them to go ahead.

East Dean had chances but couldn’t finish and conceded another two.
