Richards lights up the night for Barnham under-18s

Victories for Barnham, Bosham Youth and Pagham all feature in our latest reports from under-18s football in West Sussex.

Selsey Youth 0 Barnham Youth 1

Under floodlights, the first half saw Selsey playing possession football, passing the ball well. But it was Barnham, through strikers Aydan Richards and Pete Dearden, who had attempts on goal.

Richards volleyed what seemed a surefire opener but the Selsey keeper pulled off a remarkable diving save.

In the second half, Selsey took the initiative but failed to score.

With a minute to go Barnham sub George Bennett held up the ball on the edge of the area and, with his back to goal, laid the ball to Ayden Richards who executed a superb low strike into the bottom left-hand corner.

Selsey laid siege to the goal but were unable to equalise.

BARNHAM: Dubben, Perkins, Walsh, Perkins, Davidson, Temple, Menzies, Taylor, Gilbert, Dearden, Richards. Subs: Bennett, Wagstaff.

Bosham Yth 4 Walberton Wasps 0

Bosham took the lead on 12 minutes. Tyler Todd’s effort was blocked but the ball fell to Charlie Hawes, who took a touch to stroke the ball in from eight yards.

Bosham allowed Warblington back into it before two fine efforts from Jack Antony. One was heading into the top corner only for the keeper to save. Antony then saw a speculative overhead kick just go over the bar from 15 yards.

An early second-half chance for Tim Callen went wide. Warblington had possession but could not develop a real threat.

Callen, Rob Hayler and Phil Merrick hit the woodwork.

Justin d’ Agar and Callum Fewell came on and Bosham skipper James Johnson had to go off injured, to be replaced by Adil Rahman.

Bosham rallied in the final 15 minutes and scored three quick goals. Rob Hayler got his first since his transfer from Pagham and Callen twice latched on to assists from Callum Fewell.

This fine performance maintained top spot.

Just as the game was heading towards a stalemate, Luke Rose ran at goal only to be pushed wide by the onrushing keeper – but from the narrowest angle still found space to touch it home. In the last 16 Pagham visit Eastbourne Borough.
