It makes it four games unbeaten for Jamie Howell’s side, who are 12th in the table.

On a very difficult heavy pitch, the Rocks, without injured Stuart Green, were out of the traps quickest – nearly scoring early on.

Alex Parsons’ cross found Doug Tuck, but his connection was not the best and the chance was wasted.

The visitors were inches away from making the breakthough when Ollie Pearce ran past two Hornchurch defenders only to smash his effort against the bar.

Hornchurch began to exert some pressure of their own with Kieran Bishop’s shot bouncing back off the base of the post. In a lively opening half-hour, Pearce again looked to threaten but his dangerous cross was well dealt with by Sam Mott.

Bognor finished the first half the stronger of the two sides but when James Crane found a way through the Hornchurch defence, his shot clipped the top of the bar – meaning the two sides went in level at the interval.

After the break, Hornchurch tried to take the game to the Rocks but, as in the first -half, Pearce should have given the visitors the lead.

His shot ended up being a tame one and Mott was able to hold the effort with ease.

Bognor began to dominate and won a string of corners, but couldn’t take advantage of their possession.

In an end-to-end affair, the hosts should have then taken the lead on 64 minutes when Bishop was presented with a chance that looked easier to convert but hit the underside of the bar, and the ball fell into the thankful arms of Chris Winterton.

As the game wore on both sides enjoying a lot a possession, but neither could find that clinical finish to give their side the lead.
